F-O-R-M (Festival of Recorded Movement) is happy to be at the Vancouver Creative City Summit, showcasing a powerful selection of seven commissioned films from past festivals.

This program is a collaborative curation by Sophia Mai Wolfe and Tamar Zehava Tabori of F-O-R-M, alongside Joyce Rosario from the City of Vancouver. Each film brings a distinct and imaginative approach to movement, intersecting with the medium of film in ways that challenge and expand artistic boundaries.

  • F-O-R-M was founded in 2015, and is an international movement-on-screen festival that centers the voices of Youth and Emerging artists. We screen and commission films that explore the limitless possibilities of the body in motion through film. We provide support and a platform for early-career artists while introducing our audiences to expansive, genre-defying filmmaking.

Recorded Movement Society (RMS) was founded in 2017 to support the growing operations of the festival. The society fosters a space where movement, film and technology intersect, encouraging a diverse range of genres and approaches, including dance, abstract depictions of the body, and DIY filmmaking.

RMS is an artist-led and youth-led organization, committed to empowering young artists, and the next generation of arts and cultural leaders, particularly those from intersecting identities and traditionally marginalized communities; Black, Indigenous, People of Colour, folks with disabilities, and diverse sexual orientations, gender identities or expressions (LGBTQ2S+).

Our ninth annual festival is just around the corner! Taking place from November 8-16, 2024, this year's festival will feature:

  • 20 Short Films

  • 4 world premieres from 7 Commissioned Artists

  • Public Screens, Technology and Interaction, FORMations, Special Events, Artist Talkbacks and Community Gatherings

All in-person events will be across so-called Vancouver, with screenings also available online. Keep an eye on our website and social media channels for our official box office and programming launch next week! You can also sign up for our newsletter here to always stay informed about F-O-R-M.

Featured Films:

This collection of films was made possible through F-O-R-M’s Commissioning Fund Program, a pillar of the festival since its inception. The program offers not only funding but also in-kind access to equipment, mentorship, and workshops. During a 6-month creation period, artists are encouraged to focus on process over product, allowing for bold explorations of movement and film. The medium of film becomes a playground, offering these artists an exciting space to explore their stories and identities in ways that are intimate, inventive, and uniquely their own.

10 Years in Motion – Help Us Support the Next Generation of Movement-on-Screen Artists!

As we approach our 10th anniversary, we’re launching our 10 for 10 Campaign: donate $10 to celebrate 10 years of supporting youth and emerging filmmakers. Whether it’s $10, a little extra, or an amount that works for you, your support helps us reach our $2,000 goal by the end of this year. Every contribution counts and helps us move forward with the exciting work ahead. Your support will directly fund commissioning new works, mentorships, workshops, and fair screening fees.

This milestone is not just about looking back at what we’ve accomplished but about dreaming of what’s ahead. By donating, you’re actively shaping the future of movement-on-screen and helping us sustain our support for the next wave of creators. Together, we can help provide young artists with the support they need to bring their visions to life and share them with the world.

Recorded Movement Society is a recognized charitable organization! All donations over $25 will receive a tax receipt.
