Artist Talks
We are thrilled to bring you three exciting artist talks this year, by artists from Toronto and NYC. Sarah and Mark have been artists in the festival in past years (you might remember their works Home Exercises and Moments of Movement) and Ella has been one of our mentors for this year's commissioned artists! These talks are an exciting new offering from the festival. Join us in following the journeys of these three innovative artists who continue to push the boundaries of their movement and film based practices.
Explore embodied practices for making short film and empowered photo based projects dedicated to positive social change and radical love.
Artist talk with Sarah Friedland exploring the methods of choreographic research and filmic performance at play in her hybrid filmmaking.
Workshops
We are thrilled to have two of our commissioned artists, Sasha and Simran, offering these two Saturday workshops based on each of their artistic practices. Prepare your sonic and body awareness before witnessing the premieres of their new works at our Commissioned Artists’ World Premieres screening later that day (Saturday, September 19 at 5pm PST).
A physical and imaginative dance-based, creative, thorough self-exploration led by Simran Sachar.
Drawing from Sasha Langford’s practice as a composer and interdisciplinary performer, this workshop aims to provide participants with reflective tools to use when composing and selecting music for dance, performance, and moving images.
Special Events
Join us right after the final screening of the festival for a live conversation with the artists of our 2020 commissioned films.
BLUSCRN, co-created by Ralph Escamillan (FAKENOT) and Milton Lim, is a collection of multimedia dance works.
Join us on Instagram for a 24-hour movement and filmmaking jam to kick off the 2020 festival!
Exploring Life and Movement Through an Improvisational Film Process: filmmaker Mark Valino shares his experiences, defining moments, and inspirations that led to the creation of the “Moments of Movement” video series.
