Keeping the Distance: Sculpting Image in a Shifted Body, is a series of 6 (2 minutes each) experimental videos created during the pandemic lockdown. Created in isolated spaces to now be projected on public outdoor architectural surfaces. The project raises questions related to a political body and borders. This artistic concept departs from the notion of a body as a place where vibrations of creation start, connecting with the idea of the Covid 19 pandemic, where the bodies are/were sick and need/ed to be isolated. All activities were demanding the distance of bodies. Bodies were and continue to be sick, so distance seemed the only solution. But bodies vibrate in diverse ways. Working at a distance we were able to use digital technologies like the camera, sound, editing programs, and choreography. We can connect and transcend borders, pandemics and space thereby creating a hybrid discipline.
The work presented here starts from recording a body in motion, to be later affected and shifted in editing by experimenting with various programs that respond to movement and sound. The work was developed with Olga in Colombia and Edgardo in Canada during July and August 2020.
This event is free to attend. Registration is required for the Opening Screening and Discussion with Sonia Medel on November 12th as space is limited.
